DMPA-SC Self-Injection Pilot - DISC Ethiopia
PSI Ethiopia is supporting the Ministry of Health to introduce and scale DMPA-SC self-injection and provider administered across the country. DMPA-SC is a three-month injectable contraceptive that comes in a small, prefilled device with a short needle, making it easy to use either by a health provider or by women themselves through self-injection. It is safe and 99% effective at preventing unintended pregnancy when used correctly and consistently. It is approved by WHO and the Ethiopian Ministry of Health and is available for self-injection in over 60 countries.
DMPA-SC was introduced in Ethiopia in early 2025 and is currently available in approximately 200 public sector health facilities across the country. The goal is to further expand its availability to more facilities and geography.
Because DMPA-SC has only recently been introduced in Ethiopia, there is little familiarity and awareness about the method and likely many misconceptions.
Therefore, PSIE hereby invites all eligible and qualified firms to participate in-and-respond to this open tender invitation through submission of a cover/motivation letter, a company profile, a technical proposal, a financial proposal, and documents of eligibility. Applicants should:
